Theatric producers Sammy Lewis and Danny Dare opened Melodyland Theater on July 3, 1963, with Betty Hutton and Harve Presnell appearing in Annie Get Your Gun. This unique 3,270-seat theater-in-the-round was a fine complement to Disneyland’s entertainment just a short walk away. Although initially popular with both local and out-of-town patrons and offering a number of top names in entertainment, the theater continued to suffer financially. After a number of owners and a long stint as a Christian center, this facility was razed to make room for increased hotel and tourist facilities in the Disneyland resort area.
